A joyous wedding celebration turned into a scene of chaos and grief late Sunday night in the Binauli police station area after a speeding truck fatally hit 24-year-old groom Subodh Kumar.

The tragic accident occurred just as he was about to mount a decorated buggy for the chadhat ceremony, police said on Monday.

According to police, the incident took place between the villages of Pichaura and Sarurpur.

Subodh’s wedding procession had reached Sarurpur on Sunday evening and was resting at a roadside Panchayat house. After dinner, preparations for the ceremony began. Music was playing, relatives were dancing, and the atmosphere was filled with joy.

Around 11 p.m., Subodh—dressed in a white sherwani and safa—walked smiling toward the buggy. Suddenly, an uncontrollable truck coming from the opposite direction rammed into him with great force. Witnesses said the truck dragged him several meters before speeding away from the scene.

The impact was so sudden that no one had a chance to react. Panic spread instantly. Family members rushed Subodh to Aastha Hospital, from where he was referred to the district hospital due to his critical condition. Doctors there declared him dead.

Upon receiving the information, the Binauli police arrived at the spot and took the body into custody for post-mortem. Police teams are reviewing CCTV footage from the highway and nearby areas to identify the truck and its driver. Officials expressed confidence that the culprit will be arrested soon.

Meanwhile, the bride’s family and the bride is reportedly in shock . The atmosphere in the house—filled with laughter just hours earlier—has now turned into silence and sorrow. Relatives shared that Subodh was the only son in his family and was known for his cheerful nature. The family had been eagerly preparing for his wedding, but fate had other plans.

Police investigations are ongoing.
