Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Saturday inaugurated the Ranchi Cancer Summit–2025 at Hotel Radisson Blu here, emphasizing that the fight against cancer is not only a matter of medical treatment but also one of compassion, social sensitivity, and collective responsibility.
Speaking at the event, the Governor noted that cancer is a complex disease that deeply impacts not only the patient’s physical health but also the psychological and emotional well-being of their entire family. “In such cases, compassion, trust, and empathy are as vital as medicine in the treatment process,” he said.
Highlighting the challenges of healthcare accessibility in remote and rural areas of Jharkhand, the Governor stressed the urgent need for early diagnosis and proper treatment of cancer through dedicated and coordinated efforts.
He lauded the Ayushman Bharat scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a revolutionary step to provide free and quality healthcare to the poor and underprivileged. “However, the success of such a scheme depends on the combined efforts of doctors, hospitals, state governments, and civil society,” he added.
Describing doctors as life-savers, the Governor quoted the Sanskrit phrase “Vaidyo Narayano Harih” and underlined the need for a service-oriented approach rooted in compassion and commitment. Recalling his experience from Bareilly, he mentioned referring many patients to a cancer specialist there, whose treatment yielded satisfactory outcomes.
Expressing hope, the Governor said the summit would provide new direction to cancer treatment and public awareness efforts in Jharkhand. He urged all stakeholders to ensure that no cancer patient feels alone and that society collectively works to bring them back to a hopeful path of life.
The summit witnessed participation from leading oncologists, healthcare professionals, and representatives from government and private sectors, focusing on strategies to improve cancer care in the region.
