Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Tuesday directed that the process for renaming the Bihar Eye Bank Trust as “Jharkhand Eye Bank” be initiated at the earliest, while stressing expansion of advanced and affordable eye care services in the state.
Reviewing the functioning of the trust at Lok Bhavan in Ranchi, the Governor said the institution should establish itself as a reliable and modern eye care centre serving people across Jharkhand.
He asked the trust to undertake result-oriented efforts to expand quality ophthalmic services and develop a sustainable service model capable of attracting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding for modern medical infrastructure and advanced eye care facilities.
The Governor also directed officials to expedite steps for linking the trust with the Ayushman Bharat scheme to ensure greater access to treatment for economically weaker patients.
Emphasising efficient management of the institution, he called for the appointment of a dedicated hospital administrator for smooth functioning of the hospital. He also stressed early resolution of land-related issues associated with the trust.
During the meeting, a decision was taken to appoint Dr T.P. Barnwal as a trustee, while the resignation of Ajay Jain from the post of joint secretary of Bihar Eye Bank Trust was accepted.
Among those present at the meeting were Governor’s Principal Secretary Dr Nitin Kulkarni, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department Ajay Kumar Singh, Finance Department Secretary Prashant Kumar, and other trustees.
