Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Sunday highlighted the deep-rooted historical, cultural and spiritual ties between Odisha and West Bengal, calling for further strengthening the bond between the two neighbouring states to build a more inclusive, harmonious and prosperous India.
Addressing the West Bengal Foundation Day celebrations at the Lok Seva Bhawan, the Governor appreciated the contributions of people of West Bengal residing in Odisha and said the enduring relationship between the two states was founded on shared heritage and mutual respect.
Extending greetings to the people of West Bengal, Dr. Kambhampati hailed the state as one of India’s most vibrant and culturally rich regions, acknowledging its remarkable contributions to literature, art, science and nation-building.
Describing Kolkata as the country’s cultural capital, he said the city had produced legendary personalities such as Rabindranath Tagore and Satyajit Ray. He also lauded West Bengal’s rich cultural heritage, reflected in its music, theatre, cuisine and festivals, particularly Durga Puja, which has been recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The Governor described India’s “unity in diversity” as the nation’s greatest strength and the foundation of its stability and progress.
He said celebrating one another’s festivals, learning different languages and embracing diverse traditions strengthened national integration.
The programme featured an audio-visual presentation on West Bengal’s heritage, a recorded message from West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi, and cultural performances.
