Gorakhpur: Brother-sister killed in road accident

The festive joy of Bhai Dooj turned into mourning after a heart-wrenching road accident on the Link Expressway in Khajni police station area claimed the lives of a brother and sister, police said on Thursday.

According to reports, around 7 pm on Wednesday, a speeding Kia car lost control near the Bhagwanpur Toll Plaza and rammed into a motorcycle carrying the siblings. The impact was so severe that both riders died on the spot, while the car later crashed into the road divider.

The deceased were identified as Nilesh alias Nikki (22), son of Lalchand, and his elder sister Neelam (28), wife of Gautam, residents of Barwar Dihwa village in Sant Kabir Nagar district. They had come to Gorakhpur to visit relatives and were returning home when the tragedy occurred.

The car occupants, Rakesh Tiwari, his wife Savita Tiwari, and their young child, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the district hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses said the collision was so intense that debris from the motorcycle was scattered across the expressway, causing chaos and a brief traffic jam.

Police from Khajni station arrived at the scene, cleared the road, and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.

Station House Officer (SHO) Anup Singh confirmed the details, stating, “The accident was extremely severe. Both the motorcycle riders died before reaching the hospital. The injured car passengers are under treatment.”
