In a shocking incident in Mauachapi village, under Pipraich Police Station in Gorakhpur, 19-year-old NEET aspirant Deepak Gupta was brutally killed by cattle smugglers on Monday night. The attack sparked violent protests, stone-pelting, and a road blockade. During the clashes, SP North Jitendra Srivastava and Pipraich Police Station in-charge Puroshattam Anand Singh were injured.

According to Gorakhpur SSP Raj Karan Nayyar, the tragedy occurred around 12:30 am when smugglers arrived in three vehicles. Villagers, including Deepak, tried to stop them from untieing their cattle. In retaliation, the smugglers abducted Deepak, drove him around for an hour, crushed his head, and dumped his body about four kilometers away.

He explained, “We received information around 3:00 am that cattle smugglers had entered the village with two pickup vans. When villagers tried to stop them, one vehicle got stuck, and the villagers fled. Deepak chased the second vehicle, but the smugglers forced him into it, later pushing him out, causing fatal head injuries.” A case has been registered, and post-mortem proceedings are underway.

Angry villagers blocked the Gorakhpur-Pipraich road on Tuesday morning. Forces from four police stations and PAC were deployed to control the situation. One smuggler was caught and beaten by locals. Police confirmed that Deepak did not suffer bullet injuries, contrary to rumors. SSP Nayyar said, “No bullet marks were found. Our teams are searching for the accused, and strict action will be taken soon.”

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed authorities to ensure strict action against the culprits. Gorakhpur DM Deepak Meena described the incident as “tragic” and assured the family of all possible support. He said, “This is a sad and tragic event. Our teams are working tirelessly to catch the culprits. The family will receive all assistance permitted by law, and local support will be provided.”

Following CM Yogi’s instructions, senior officials, including the DM, SSP, and Inspector General, met the family and are in constant dialogue. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken, and the family will receive full support during this difficult time.
