The Goa Police on Wednesday brought the owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Goa’s Arpora, brothers Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, to Goa after they landed in the state following a 48-hour transit remand granted by a Delhi court. The move marks a key step in the probe into the deadly fire that killed 25 people earlier this month.
Visuals from early Wednesday morning at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport showed the two in police custody. The siblings had been brought to Delhi on Tuesday following their deportation from Thailand, where they had allegedly fled after the December 6 fire at their nightclub.

The Goa Police formally arrested the duo upon their arrival in Delhi and produced them before the Patiala House Court, seeking permission to take them to Goa for further investigation. The court granted a 48-hour transit remand and directed authorities to ensure that the accused are provided with the medicines they require during transit.
What the Delhi court ordered
Duty Metropolitan Magistrate Twinkle Chawla granted a two-day transit remand to the Goa Police. During the hearing, investigators sought a three-day remand, arguing that additional time was required to safely transport the accused and complete procedural formalities. The court, however, limited the remand to 48 hours while laying down conditions related to medical care.
How the Luthra brothers fled after the Goa nightclub fire, and how agencies caught them in Thailand
Fire during show left 25 dead, several injured
The prosecution said the fire broke out during a fire show organised at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in North Goa’s Arpora area. Preliminary findings indicate that the event was held in the absence of appropriate safety measures, including proper firefighting equipment and emergency evacuation infrastructure.
The blaze claimed the lives of 25 people, including tourists and staff members, and left several others injured. Investigators also claimed that the nightclub had no emergency exit doors on the ground and deck floors, yet the fire show was still arranged.
Case registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
A criminal case was registered on December 7 at the Arpora Anjuna Police Station under sections 105, 125, 125(a), 125(b) and 287, read with section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. These sections relate to negligence and acts endangering human life, officials said.
From Thailand detention to Goa custody
The Luthra brothers were detained by Thai police in Phuket after Indian authorities initiated steps to suspend their passports and sought their deportation. Officials said the deportation was carried out following due legal process under the India–Thailand extradition framework.
With the accused now being taken to Goa, investigators are expected to question them on safety compliance, event permissions, and their role in organising the fire show that led to one of the deadliest nightclub fires in the state’s recent history.
