The Vicky Middukhera Foundation is set to commemorate the birth anniversary of late student leader Vicky Middukhera on July 26 with a large-scale environmental initiative titled ‘Go Green 2025’. The campaign will focus on extensive tree plantation across northern India, aiming to plant 50,000 saplings this year and reach a target of one lakh in the near future.
Announcing the initiative, Ajaypal Middukhera, President of the Foundation and elder brother of Vicky Middukhera, said, “Vicky was deeply committed to empowering youth and promoting a cleaner and greener environment. ‘Go Green 2025’ is a tribute to his vision and a step toward creating a healthier Mohali and northern India.”
This year’s campaign builds on last year’s success, where over 15,000 plants were planted across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Jammu. “We are scaling up this year with more ambitious plans, thanks to our 20,000-strong volunteer base,” Ajaypal added.
As part of the campaign, awareness rides will be conducted along Mohali’s Airport Road and afforestation drives will be held in key areas like Chapar Chiri. The foundation aims to make Mohali a green and pollution-free model city.
Beyond green initiatives, the Foundation has been active in social causes, including drug de-addiction awareness, free vocational training, blood donation camps, and educational support for underprivileged students. It has also led cleanliness drives and flood relief efforts. Vicky Middukhera was known for transforming the Student Organisation of India (SOI) into a strong student force at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
