Central government will construct affordable, dependable, and non-slip national highways with German technology. In this technique, Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA), a German invention, will be used to pave national highways rather than the more conventional coal tar mixture.
The cutting-edge SMA material has a variety of features, including a high-temperature resistance of 45 degrees Celsius and rain and moisture-repelling capabilities, which prevents potholes forming on the roads. Because it is far more affordable, stronger, and long-lasting than coal tar, it will extend the lifespan of highways by up to three times.

All Central and state agencies were instructed to employ SMS material in the building of national highways in February by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. According to a top ministry official, national highways are under more pressure from traffic each year. Additionally, commercial trucks with unique tyre designs are operating on the roadways while towing hefty axle loads. Because of this strain on the highways, there is wear and tear and repair work has to be done in less time.

According to the official, numerous studies conducted all throughout the world have shown that MSA is both more affordable and durable than concrete. Its thickness is double that of coal tar. In four to five years, the freshly built coal tar motorway will need to be restored. Highways built by the MSA, however, only last for a few years. Their life can last up to 50 years when designing specially constructed roadways.
Stone Matrix Asphalt is a solid, dark-brown coloured petroleum material, according to specialists. It is created in stages. It has qualities like waste rubber powder, modified bamboo fibre, and lignin fibre, among others. The fact that MSA is a highly graded mixture prevents it from becoming slick on highways. able to withstand moisture brought on by rain.
The tolerating power is greater for axle-load automobiles. As a result, despite the rain, there are no potholes on the roads. can withstand a 45-degree temperature increase. Extreme cold does not cause highways to fail. Highway visibility is excellent at night, in poor weather, and in fog. The unique feature is that MSA experiences less traffic noise.
