Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections due in December this year, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday announced in the state Legislative Assembly that 19 new districts would be set up in Rajasthan in the next fiscal year 2023-24 in view of population expansion in the existing geographical situation .

Replying to an Appropriation and Finance Bill 2023-24 after two days of debate, Gehlot also declared conversion of three districts Banwara, Pali and Sikar into divisional headquarters.

The CM said a committee to review the possibility of new districts headed by retired IAS Ram Lubhaya has recommended following new districts: Anoopgarh, Balotra, Beawar, Deeg, Deedwana-Kuchaman, Dudu, Kekari, Kotputli-Behror, Khairtail, Neem Ka Thana, Phalodi, Salumber, Sanchore, Shahpura, and Jaipur and Jodhpur districts have been divided into Jaipur-East, Jaipur-South, Jodhpur-East, and Jodhpur-West respectively.

Presently, there are 33 districts in Rajasthan. With the new districts, superintendent of police, collector, IG-police, and revenue officers would be created before December month as the Vidhan Sabha polls are barely eight months away.

To create human resources and infrastructure in new districts and divisions, a sum of Rs.2000 cr has been earmarked for this purpose, Gehlot assured the House.
