Ganga Puja, 'Dudh Abhishek' performed in Varanasi as Suvendu Adhikari takes oath as West Bengal Chief Minister.

Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday, May 9, took oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, days after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) marked a historic win in the 2026 Assembly elections in the state ending Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government’s 15-year rule.

To commemorate the special occasion, several BJP supporters, under the aegis of the BJP Backward Classes Front, Kashi Region, performed Ganga Puja as well as ‘Dudh Abhishek’ with Vedic chanting at the Dashashwamedh Ghat on Saturday morning.

Notably, Adhikari has taken oath as the Chief Minister of the first BJP-ruled West Bengal government, along with four other members of the state Council of Ministers led by him.

Among the other five members of the state Council of Ministers who were sworn in on Saturday included Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Kirtania and Khudiram Tudu.

Ghosh was the second person to take oath after Adhikari, followed by Paul, Kritania, Tudu and Pramanik

As of now, the portfolios of the five other members of the state’s Council of Ministers have not been announced. While Kirtania represents the Matua community, Tudu represents the tribal community.

In the recently concluded 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal, the BJP bagged 207 seats, restricting the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC to 80 constituencies.
