An analysis of the Mahagathbandhan’s candidate list shows a gap between its claims of inclusive representation and the actual ticket distribution. Nearly 40% of Congress nominees come from upper castes, while only 5 of its 61 candidates are women—just 8.2%.
Within the alliance, the RJD is contesting 142 seats, Congress 60, CPI(ML) 20, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) 10, CPI 9, CPI(M) 4, and the newly formed Indian Inclusive Party (IIP) 2 seats.
In total, the Mahagathbandhan has fielded 251 candidates. Three constituencies remain vacant from the alliance, while 11 seats will witness “friendly contests” among its partners.
The Congress Party on October 15 released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, announcing seven nominees, including state Congress president Rajesh Ram, who will contest from the Kutumba constituency. On October 20, the party issued a second list with six additional names, bringing the total number of declared candidates to 59 so far.
