Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch and dedicate development projects worth more than Rs 23,000 crore across Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab on Friday, with the visit focusing on transport infrastructure, healthcare, education and railway modernisation.

The Prime Minister will begin his tour in Haryana’s Jind, where he will flag off India’s first hydrogen-powered train and inaugurate or lay the foundation stone for a series of projects, including major national highways, healthcare institutions and educational facilities.

Among the key initiatives, Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Sikh Museum at Kurukshetra and launch road infrastructure projects, including the Hansi-Barwala National Highway and the Haryana stretch of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway. He will also inaugurate Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government Medical College in Bhiwani and Maharishi Chyavan Medical College and Rao Tula Ram Hospital in Narnaul.

In the second leg of his visit, the Prime Minister will arrive in Chandigarh at around 1.15 pm to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 4,736 crore at the Punjab Engineering College (PEC). He is scheduled to address a public gathering for nearly 45 minutes before leaving for Jalandhar.

According to the official programme, nearly 10 projects will be launched from a single platform in Chandigarh. Authorities have declared a two-kilometre radius around the venue as a high-security zone, with entry permitted only to those carrying valid passes. Around 7,500 people are expected to attend the event, for which a fully air-conditioned temporary venue has been prepared. Officials have also made special arrangements, including medical assistance, mobile toilets, uninterrupted power supply and drainage systems to deal with possible monsoon showers.

Later in the afternoon, Modi will travel by helicopter to Jalandhar, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the redeveloped Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station, a heritage station over a century old that has been upgraded under the Centre’s railway modernisation programme.

He will also flag off the Amritsar-Varanasi Sant Ravidas Express and virtually dedicate 75 redeveloped Amrit Bharat railway stations across the country. During his visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for railway and road infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 5,470 crore before addressing a public rally.

Officials said elaborate security arrangements have been made across Chandigarh, Haryana and Jalandhar, with more than 10,000 police personnel and security officials deployed. Both Chandigarh and Jalandhar have been declared no-fly zones during the Prime Minister’s visit, while snipers have been positioned at strategic locations and multi-layer security checks have been put in place.

Authorities have prohibited visitors from carrying bags, electronic gadgets, food items, water bottles, umbrellas, sharp objects, banners, flags and black-coloured protest material into the venues. Entry will be restricted to pass holders using designated transport arrangements.

Political observers are also viewing the Prime Minister’s visit as significant ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. However, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and senior Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi are unlikely to attend the official programmes, with reports indicating that a state cabinet minister may represent the Punjab government instead.
