Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who staged a 26-day hunger strike in support of Cockroach Janta Party’s Jantar Mantar protest, on Saturday said that resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is a “victory of democracy”.
“It’s a victory of peace, patience & persévérance,” Wangchuk wrote on X, congratulating the Cockroach Janta Party, India’s Gen Z and citizens who supported the movement.
Wangchuk added: “FROM ACCOUNTABILITY, NOW TO REFORMS”
His reaction came shortly after Pradhan announced his resignation over nationwide protests by students, who demanded him to take accountability of paper leaks and step down from his post.
“…To ensure that anti-national elements are not benefitted by the situation at Jantar Mantar and across the country, that the nation remains united, students in India do not get tangled in legal complexities and focus on their studies and their career, I have tendered my resignation to the Prime Minister…,” Pradhan said in a letter posted on X.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke welcomed the decision but said that protest will continue untill all three demands are met. The other two demands are – Rs 1 crore compensation for NEET suicide victims and action against police officials over brutality against protestors.
