Fourteen women entrepreneurs from rural Uttar Pradesh, popularly called “Lakhpati Didis” for their success in earning a sustainable income through self-help groups, have set off for New Delhi to attend the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort.

UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Wednesday waved off the group from his camp office at 7, Kalidas Marg in Lucknow, with the women travelling to the national capital by bus. Each participant is accompanied by her husband or a support companion, along with two special representatives from the mission.

Their presence at this national event highlights a significant step forward for women’s empowerment under the State Rural Livelihood Mission.

Mr. Maurya thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending the invitation to these women, describing it as a tribute to their entrepreneurial spirit and “a source of inspiration for thousands of other self-help group members.”

Prior to their departure, he engaged in conversation with the Didis, listened to their experiences, and honoured them with certificates and traditional shawls. The send-off also featured a symbolic ‘Tiranga Yatra’.
