Four tourists from Delhi, Haryana die in Mussoorie as car plundes into deep gorge

Four tourists from Haryana and Delhi died in Mussoorie when the car they were travelling in lost control on a steep slope near Mussoorie and plunged into a deep gorge.

Reports indicate that four tourists died Wednesday morning in the Barlowganj area on Jharipani Road after their car lost control and skidded nearly 200 meters into a deep gorge.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) claimed in a statement that upon receiving information about the accident, its rescue teams rushed to the spot with fire service personnel and a 108 Ambulance to launch a relief and rescue operation. All four tourists traveling in the ill-fated vehicle died on the spot. The accident was so severe that rescuers had no time to save lives. However, the SDRF was making efforts to retrieve the deceased bodies from the deep gorge.

According to the Mussoorie Police, the deceased car occupants had purchased some items from a nearby shop just before the accident. During their conversation with the shopkeepers they identified themselves as belonging to Uttarkashi. SDRF added that as soon as the victims got into the car after buying goods vehicle suddenly began moving fast down the slope and the driver lost control over the car. They drove through an empty land plot before plunging into a deep gorge, read the SDRF letter.

SDRF stated that deceased were from Delhi, Haryana and Ghaziabad. Dead tourists were identified as Satyaprakash, resident of Sonipat Haryana, Manit (19), Savita (48) both residents of Ghaziabad and Sangeeta (46) from Karol Bagh, Delhi. Bodies of the deceased were recovered from the gorge. Mussoorie police informed that prelimnary investigation has that cause of accident was brake failure on the steep slope.
