The Delhi Police busted a network reportedly transporting cannabis concealed in trolley bags from West Bengal to Delhi by long-distance trains with the arrest of four alleged members of a drug syndicate from west Delhi, an officer said on Tuesday.
According to the police, they have recovered more than 47 kg of cannabis worth around Rs 25 lakh. A senior officer said the accused have been identified as Toni Singh (47) of Subhash Nagar, Sultana (30) from West Bengal’s Cooch Behar, Noor Jahan (32) from Jalpaiguri, and Santosh, also known as Bhabhi (38) of Okhla Industrial Area in the national capital.
On November 9, the police, acting on the information that a large consignment of cannabis was to be delivered near Janakpuri District Park, carried out a raid at the location and apprehending Toni, Sultana, and Noor with trolley bags reportedly containing the contraband.
While the investigation of the accused was ongoing, they arrested Santosh, a key receiver and supplier in Delhi, on Wednesday, they said.
The seized cannabis was weighed and confiscated following legal procedures, and a case under the NDPS Act was registered at Janakpuri Police Station.
Further investigation into this case is underway to trace the main supplier in West Bengal, the police added.
The investigators disclosed that the syndicate operated between West Bengal and Delhi, sending large consignments from West Bengal while Sultana and Noor Jahan transported the drugs on long-distance trains concealed in trolley bags.
Santosh allegedly managed the receipt and distribution of the consignments in Delhi, with Toni serving as a facilitator in the local network.
