Senior Congress leader and former Kerala minister CV Padmarajan passed away on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kollam due to age-related ailments. He was 93
Padmarajan served as the KPCC president from 1983 to 1987 and was a minister in both Karunakaran and AK Antony’s cabinet. He handled important portfolios including finance, electricity, and fisheries in the cabinet.
Born on July 22, 1931 at Paravur in the Kollam district to K. Velu Vaidyan and Thankamma, he entered the field of public service by participating in the freedom struggle through the All Travancore Students Congress. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly from Chathannur constituency twice.
When K Karunakaran went abroad for treatment, he also held the charge of the chief minister. In 1983, he resigned from his ministerial post and became the president of the KPCC.
