Former general secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and former chairperson of the North Paravur municipality, Valsala Prasannakumar, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday.
Valsala received the party membership from BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar at a function held at the party headquarters, Mararji Bhavan, in Thiruvananthapuram.
Speaking to the media after joining the BJP, Valsala said she decided to join the party after being attracted by the development agenda and women empowerment initiatives of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre.
She further said that she is ready to contest against Opposition leader V D Satheesan from the Paravur constituency if she is given a party ticket in the upcoming elections.
