Veer Soren, the 19-year-old grandson of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, passed away in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh on February 24, the family confirmed on Wednesday.

According to information shared by the family, Veer Soren had travelled to the Kullu–Manali region with his friends. After returning to his hotel, his health suddenly deteriorated. Despite efforts to provide him with medical assistance, he could not be saved. The exact medical cause of death has not yet been officially disclosed.

In a statement, the Soren family said that Veer’s sudden demise has left them devastated.

Deeply shocked by the loss, Champai Soren left Ranchi late Tuesday night along with his sons and flew to Delhi. He is expected to proceed to Kullu thereafter.

The news has cast a pall of gloom over his ancestral village, Jhilinggora, and the surrounding areas in the Seraikela district. Ongoing traditional programmes in the village have been postponed.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed grief, describing the news as deeply saddening and praying for strength for the bereaved family.

Senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi also conveyed his condolences, terming the loss extremely painful and expressing solidarity with the family.
