It is a season of shifting allegiances in poll-bound states. Just weeks before polling in Madhya Pradesh, a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA joined Congress party on Sunday.

Sunil Mishra, who had left the Congress to join the BJP in 2014, went back into the fold of his former party in the presence of state president Kamal Nath in Bhopal.

Mishra was the MLA from Katni’s Murwara from 1985 to 1990. He had reportedly resigned from the BJP in September over differences on the SC-ST Act and lack of development of Katni region.

Mishra’s induction into the Congress comes a day after a top Congress leader from Chhattisgarh joined the BJP.

On Saturday, Congress’ Chhattisgarh working president, Ramdayal Uike, was welcomed into the BJP in the presence of party national president Amit Shah and Chief Minister Raman Singh along with some other leaders in Bilaspur.

“Tribal leaders are neglected and not favoured in the Congress. There is a difference in what they say and what they do,” said Uike after joining the BJP in poll-bound Chhattisgarh.

Uike, who represents Pali-Tanakhar constituency, is considered a popular tribal leader in Bilaspur division. In the state, 18 Naxal-affected constituencies will go to polls in the first phase on November 12, while the rest of the 72 constituencies would go to polls in the second phase on November 20.
