New Delhi, 8 August: The CPI-M MP, Mr A Sampath, has raised an issue of privilege against the Food Ministry accusing it of committing “gross impropriety” on the rights and privileges of MPs by publicising the food security legislation.
Talking to reporters outside Parliament, he said, “…while the Parliament is in session it has been a gross impropriety upon the rights and privileges of the members of Parliament giving publicity utilising crores and crores from the public exchequer regarding the provisions of the so-called food security Bill or the already published food security ordinance. It is a violation,” he said.
Stating that he had given a notice to the Speaker, Mrs Meira Kumar, Mr Sampath wondered why the ministry was giving “splashy multicolour advertisements in newspapers, stating the details regarding the coming food security Bill, which was proclaimed as ordinance”.
The Bill was introduced in the LS yesterday. It may be taken up for debate on Monday. sns
