The first case under the recently enacted Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2025, has been registered at the Borkheda police station in Kota against two Christian missionaries.
As per the FIR, lodged on Thursday night, two Christian missionaries – Chandi Varghese of Delhi and Arun John of Kota organised a major programme “Atmik Satsang” and lured some Hindus to baptism in Christianity between November 4 and 6.
The district administration has permitted it for the sake of spiritual satsang. However, the two missionaries lured some Hindus to baptism. They were allegedly baptised by sprinkling sacred water and read the baptism pledge.
The accused had allegedly made offensive utterances against the Hindus and the state government. The police have opened an investigation into the case.
The State Assembly had passed the anti-conversion Bill during its monsoon session on September 9. The gazette notification for the governor’s consent and enactment of the law was issued on October 9 and the Home Department has notified the date of the promulgation of the law in the state on October 29, 2025.
