Fire breaks out at Rajasthan refinery a day before inauguration by PM Modi | VIDEO


A day before its high-profile inauguration, a fire broke out at the refinery-cum-petrochemical complex in Rajasthan’s Balotra district on Monday, reported news agency ANI.

Initial reports suggested that the blaze erupted in the Crude Distillation Unit of the refinery, raising safety concerns ahead of the inauguration.

Following the incident, fire tenders rushed to the spot to control the blaze.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma is also scheduled to visit the refinery today to take stock of the arrangements before its inauguration by PM Modi.

Visuals shared by ANI showed smoke billowing into the sky as fire tenders were trying to extinguish the flames.

More details are awaited as authorities carry out an assessment of the damage caused by the fire.

The prime minister is scheduled to inaugurate the refinery-cum-petrochemical complex on Tuesday. As per the government, the project has an investment of more than Rs 79,450 crore.
