A fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday at the Jharkhand Police headquarters in Dhurwa, damaging several systems and equipment at its data centre.
According to officials, the blaze, suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit around 5 am, spread through the development section where core functions such as CCTNS, in-house software operations, and the Special Branch’s HRMS were housed. More than a dozen computers, air-conditioning units, and some furniture were gutted.
The fire brigade was alerted immediately and reached the site within half an hour. The flames were brought under control by 6.30 am. The police said while hardware and records were affected, critical services and core intranet and public-facing platforms of Jharkhand Police remain functional.
DIG (Special Branch) rushed to the spot to review the situation and issue instructions to staff. “No critical system has been compromised. An assessment of losses is underway,” IG Michael Raj, Police Headquarters spokesperson, said.
The headquarters has witnessed fire incidents in the past, including a major blaze in its main conference hall a few years ago. Senior officers have ordered a detailed inquiry into the latest incident, with directions to strengthen preventive and safety measures.
