The Karnataka Police have registered an FIR against Kannur native Vijesh Pillai on a complaint of Swapna Suresh, the prime accused in the sensational Kerala gold smuggling case.

The KR Puram Police in Bengaluru registered the first information report (FIR) against Vijesh Pillai for allegedly offering Swapna Rs 30 crore to withdraw the allegations against Kerala Chief Minister and his family and asked her to leave the country and threatening to finish her if she didn’t heed.

The police issued a notice to Pillai asking him to appear before the investigation officer for inquiry within six days.

The Police confirmed that Pillai was booked for criminal intimidation based on Swapna Suresh’s complaint. Swapna, in her complaint, had alleged that Pillai met her at a hotel on Whitefield Main Road on March 4, where he allegedly stated that he was sent by the CPI-M Kerala secretary MV Govindan and offered Rs 30 crore to withdraw the allegations against Kerala Chief Minister and his family and asked her to leave the country. She said Vijesh Pillai also threatened her that her life would be in danger if she did not accept the offer.

The KR Puram police, who had initially registered the case as a non-cognisable report, took the court’s permission and registered an FIR under section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC against Pillai, on Monday.

The police earlier recorded the statement of Swapna Suresh and verified the CCTV footage of the hotel recorded on the date on which the alleged meeting between Swapna and Vijesh Pillai took place.

Swapna Suresh, in a Facebook Live on Thursday, alleged Pillai of offering her Rs 30 crore to start a new life in another country.
