Drama, politics, and cinema are colliding again. And this time, it’s all about a film that may or may not even exist. A strong warning from a party leader, questions over political motives, and fresh scrutiny around affidavits have turned the spotlight back on actor-politician C. Joseph Vijay (yes, Thalapathy Vijay).

“Film against Vijay won’t last even a day”

Aadhav Arjuna, a leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, stirred controversy on Saturday. Speaking to reporters, he alleged that both the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Bharatiya Janata Party were backing an upcoming film meant to insult Vijay.

Arjuna warned that any such movie would fail badly. In his words, a film targeting Vijay “will not last even a day” in theatres. He described the alleged project as part of a larger political strategy to degrade the TVK chief using cinema.

Questions over ‘Jana Nayagan’

Arjuna specifically referred to the film ‘Jana Nayagan’. He questioned how a politically motivated movie could be allowed to release, especially when Vijay’s own projects were reportedly facing hurdles.

Interestingly, Arjuna admitted he had not seen the film’s content. Still, he claimed he had received information that both the BJP and DMK were operating behind the scenes. He also challenged filmmakers, asking who had given them the authority to target a political leader through cinema.

“Mass appeal will decide”

Highlighting Vijay’s popularity, Arjuna pointed to the huge online response to his films. He said teasers of Vijay’s movies often pull in 10 to 15 crore views. According to him, this level of mass appeal would automatically reject any negative portrayal.

He insisted that audience support is strong enough to ensure such a film would not survive even half a day at the box office.

Fresh scrutiny over election affidavits

Meanwhile, Vijay is facing another issue unrelated to cinema. Discrepancies have surfaced in his election affidavits ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Documents showed that Vijay’s affidavit from Perambur mentioned no pending cases against him. However, his affidavit filed from Tiruchirappalli (East) listed two pending cases.

The mismatch has raised concerns over accuracy of disclosures.
