Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge came down heavily on the recent amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), labeling them as a direct attack on minority communities rather than a reform.
Speaking at an election campaign meeting in Elappara, Idukki, on Sunday, Kharge said the amendment specifically targets the Christian community, drawing a parallel to how the Waqf Bill affected the Muslim community. “The amendment is not a reform, it is an attack. It is attacking not only the Christian church but also general society. The FCRA affects the Christian community just as the Waqf Bill affected the Muslim community, “Kharge said.
He also directed sharp criticism toward both the LDF, alleging that the LDF is working with the BJP under a mutual understanding, saying “Pinarayi Vijayan and Modi are moving forward in the same direction.”
“Kerala has always been a progressive state. But I am now asking, is Kerala now moving backwards? Has the Pinarayi Vijayan government kept its promises for the last ten years,” he asked, adding economic crisis and the lack of local jobs are forcing youth to seek employment abroad.
Specifically mentioning the Life Mission project and the Sabarimala gold loot case, he alleged that corruption is rampant under the Pinarayi Vijayan government “There is huge corruption going on. Corruption is in the Life Mission too. The government is in the shadow of corruption in the Sabarimala gold loot case,” he added.
