Desperation in farmers to get fertiliser from a government distribution centre resulted in a commotion, leading to a clash between two groups, which were armed with lathis. At least three peasants were injured, one seriously, in the incident in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday.
According to officials, a farmer, Ajay Tomar, had to be admitted to a hospital with serious injuries, while two more farmers, Ramesh Tomar and Rajaram Tomar, required treatment after the clash.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Bhupendra Singh Kushwaha said that there is an adequate stock of fertilisers at the city grain market premises cum fertiliser distribution centre, but still the farmers began queuing up outside the centre since 5 AM.
When the centre opened up at 9:30 AM, the farmers began pushing and shoving each other. That resulted in the scuffle, and subsequently, a clash broke out between two groups which were armed with lathis.
The police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The SDM said action would be taken against both groups, and it was also being investigated why farmers came to the distribution centre with lathis and sticks.
