Children of farmers in Maharashtra, seeking repeal of anti-farmers law,  will observe a day-long hunger strike at various places in the state on August 15, Independence Day.

"We have decided to hold `atmaklesh andolan’ at Azad Maidan here on August 15, to demand that farmers be freed from the clutches of the legislations which have enslaved them," Bhumiputra Sangharsh Vahini president Abhijeet Patil Falke told reporters here.

Falke alleged the government has cheated the farmers and failed to resolve any of their issues.

"The government has cheated farmers and failed to resolve any of the issues affecting them," Falke said, adding that children of farmers will join the protest on Independence Day.

Vahini leader Amar Habib said the government had failed to repeal three legislations — the Land Ceiling Act, Essential Services Act and the Land Acquisition Act.
