A farmer sustained critical injuries after coming into contact with a high-voltage power line while working in his fields across the international border fence in Fazilka district on Tuesday. The victim, identified as a resident of the border village Muhar Khiwa Mansa, was immediately rescued by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and rushed to the local government hospital for emergency treatment.
The incident occurred when the farmer had crossed the barbed wire fencing to tend to his nine-acre ancestral plot located near the Zero Line. According to his son, Bittu Singh, the farmer was attempting to connect a wire to a transformer to operate an irrigation motor when he received a powerful electrical shock, causing him to sustain severe burn injuries.

BSF personnel stationed at the border post noticed the commotion and acted swiftly to provide medical assistance. They coordinated the immediate evacuation of the victim to the Fazilka Civil Hospital. Medical officers at the facility confirmed that the farmer has suffered significant electrical burns across a large portion of his body.
Dr. Karan, who is attending to the victim at the government hospital, stated that while treatment has commenced, the farmer’s condition remains critical. Medical authorities indicated that he might be referred to a specialized multi-specialty center for advanced care if his health status does not stabilize. Local officials are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the electrical accident at the sensitive border location.
