A man pretending to be Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren allegedly made unsolicited phone calls to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and his wife, prompting the Chief Minister’s Office to file an FIR in Ranchi.
The complaint was lodged late Sunday at the Gonda police station by the CM’s private assistant, Jai Prasad.
According to the FIR, the caller phoned the Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister from mobile number 7439077614 around 9:50 pm on Saturday and introduced himself as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. The complaint also notes that a similar attempt had earlier been made with former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, where an unknown person tried to pass himself off as Hemant Soren. The CM’s office has described the pattern as a serious breach aimed at misleading senior leaders.
A recording of the latest call has been submitted to the police on a pen drive. In the audio, the caller can be heard identifying himself as Hemant Soren and speaking in a suspicious and inappropriate manner. The number appeared on Truecaller as “Abhijeet New CM GPT,” suggesting deliberate impersonation.
Ranchi Police have opened an investigation with support from the cyber and technical units. Officers are examining call records, SIM details, and location data to identify the person behind the calls. The Chief Minister has directed the police to expedite the probe and ensure firm action.
“Necessary action has begun. More details will be shared after the investigation,” Sadar DSP Sanjeev Besra said. Police teams are working to trace the caller and move towards immediate legal action.
