EXCLUSIVE | Before Cockroach Janta Party went viral, founder Abhijeet Dipke faced complaint over Kashmir posts

Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke, who has gone viral in recent days for his satirical online political campaign targeting unemployment and youth frustration, had earlier faced a complaint over some of his Kashmir-related social media posts, according to a document reviewed by The Statesman.

The complaint, submitted in August 2019 to Pune Police by Legal Rights Observatory, has resurfaced amid renewed attention around Dipke and his growing online following through the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ campaign, which has gained traction across social media platforms.

Speaking to The Statesman, Vinay Joshi of Legal Rights Observatory claimed that despite repeated follow-ups over the years, no FIR was ultimately registered in the matter.

Joshi said a formal complaint had been submitted against Dipke over social media posts that allegedly promoted narratives sympathetic to Kashmiri separatists.

Joshi claimed that after filing the complaint, he remained in touch with Pune Police and pursued the matter.

‘Police assured action, but no FIR was filed’

According to Joshi, police officials had indicated that action would be taken in the matter.

“I kept following up on the matter, but even after six years, no FIR has been filed,” he told The Statesman.

He further claimed that he never received any formal communication from Pune Police through email or any other official channel regarding the status of the complaint.

Dipke recently returned to headlines over satirical political campaign

Dipke has recently gone viral on social media following the launch of the “Cockroach Janta Party”, a satirical online political campaign that positions itself as the voice of unemployed and chronically online youth.

The campaign gained traction after remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant comparing unemployed youth to “cockroaches” triggered widespread online discussion.

Dipke, who is currently pursuing higher studies in public relations in the United States, has previously worked with the Aam Aadmi Party’s social media operations during election campaigns.

The Statesman reached out to Abhijeet Dipke via WhatsApp and phone calls for his response to the allegations and the complaint. A response was awaited at the time of publication.
