Ex-Defense Minister A.K Antony’s driver commits suicide

Former Defence Minister A.K. Antony’s driver on Friday committed suicide at the official residence of the senior Congress leader here, police said.

Police said the deceased, Sanjay Singh, 35, a native of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh, worked as driver of A.K. Antony and his family.

Singh was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the servant quarter of the Jantar Mantar Road residence around 12.15 p.m. and police were informed.

“No suicide note was found from the spot. Prima facie, Singh committed suicide late at night after all staff members has gone to sleep. When he did not come out from his room till late in the morning, a staff member went to check on him. He saw Singh hanging from a ceiling fan,” Additional Commissioner of Police B.K. Singh said.

“During investigation, no foul play has come to the notice of the police team. It appears that Singh was depressed over some family problem since a couple of days. He was working for Antony and his family for the last few years,” Singh added.

His family members have been informed. The postmortem report was awaited, the police officer added.
