On October 5, as the world celebrates Global Mammal Big Day, the tranquil trails of Okhla Bird Sanctuary will come alive with runners, conservationists, educators, and nature lovers taking part in a special Eco Run.

The event, organized jointly by Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board and the Global Wildlife Fair, aims to blend fitness with environmental consciousness — celebrating the rich diversity of mammals while promoting their protection and the health of the planet.

Announcing the event, Uttar Pradesh’s Minister of Tourism and Culture Jaiveer Singh said, “The Eco Run is not just about running—it’s about reconnecting with nature. Participants will experience the beauty of Okhla Bird Sanctuary while contributing to the global movement for wildlife conservation. From the smallest bat to the mighty elephant, every mammal plays a vital role in maintaining ecological balance, and this event reminds us of that shared responsibility.”

The Eco Run will flag off at 7:00 AM on Sunday, October 5, from Gate No. 2 of Okhla Bird Sanctuary. The route will take participants through scenic stretches of the sanctuary, where they will witness the coexistence of urban life and wild habitat. The event will see participation from conservationists, educators, fitness enthusiasts, and citizens who wish to celebrate life in its most natural form.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, UP Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh added, “Mammals are an essential part of our environment and a key indicator of ecological health. Many species face growing challenges, making their protection more important than ever. Through the Eco Run, we hope to inspire people to combine fitness with awareness — to run not just for themselves, but for nature.”

The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, through this initiative, seeks to bring communities closer to nature and strengthen local participation in conservation efforts. By taking part in the Eco Run, participants will not only embrace wellness but also carry forward a message of coexistence, empathy, and sustainability.
