In a bid to prepare for a nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls, the Election Commission of India Wednesday inaugurated its pivotal two-day conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs).

The event, which took place at the India International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Management, marks a strategic step forward in ensuring full readiness for the upcoming nationwide SIR of electoral rolls, the poll panel said in a press note.

Presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and joined by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, the conference brings together CEOs from all states and Union Territories.

Their core agenda is to rigorously assess and fine-tune the preparedness of their offices for the critical SIR exercise.

“This conference is not just a routine review, but a commitment to strengthening the foundation of our democracy through meticulous electoral roll management,” said CEC Kumar. “The accuracy and inclusiveness of voter lists are paramount to free and fair elections, and we expect every state and UT to be fully prepared.”

The conference builds on the groundwork laid during the previous SIR preparedness meet on September 10. At that session, the states and UTs presented detailed data on their elector base, the qualifying date of their last SIR, and the status of their electoral rolls.

The focus is on progress made in aligning current electors with those registered in the last SIR, ensuring data integrity and minimizing discrepancies. Additionally, the Commission meticulously reviewed the appointment and training status of key electoral officers — District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and Booth Level Assistants (BLAs) — whose roles are vital for the success of the SIR.

The Conference reaffirms ECI’s unwavering commitment to conducting elections on a foundation of trust, transparency, and robust administrative efficiency. As India prepares for its next electoral milestones, these efforts ensure that every eligible voter’s voice will be heard loud and clear.
