On the request of Chief Electoral Officer( CEO) of Uttar Pradesh Navdeep Rinwa, the Election Commission of India ( ECI) has extended the process of Special Intensive Revision ( SIR) in the state by two week.
CEO Mr Rinwa informed here on Thursday that the ECI has extended the previously announced dates for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process underway in the state, based on the qualifying date of January 1, 2026, and has issued revised dates.
The CEO stated that according to the revised dates, the enumeration period has been set until December 26 and the draft publication of the electoral rolls will now be on December 31. The period for receiving claims and objections will be accepted from December 31, 2025, to January 30, 2026.
He said from December 31, 2025, to February 21, 2026, decisions on enumeration forms and the disposal of claims and objections will be carried out during the notice phase. The final publication of the Uttar Pradesh electoral roll will now be on February 28, 2026, he added.
Yesterday, the CEO had stated that a request had been made to the ECI for a two-week extension to systematically complete the SIR process in the state and to prepare an accurate electoral roll. This extension would allow District Election Officers to re-verify deceased, shifted, and absent voters.
The deadline to complete the submission of enumeration forms of SIR ended today but still in UP around 18.85 % or around 2.80 crore of the total 15.44 crores voters were yet to respond.
In a statement, the CEO said that the digitization work of 99.24 percent enumeration forms has been completed in the state. In the digitized enumeration forms, 18.85 % form have been marked in the category of non-returnable such as deceased, permanently transferred, absent and double-entry voters, etc.
“So far, 80.29 percent of the enumeration forms have been received back with signatures of the voter and other members of his family,” he said.
Rinwa said 18.85 per cent of the voters’ enumeration forms are of non-returnable category, with the highest 8.22% of about 1.27 crore permanently shifted voters from their place of residence, 2.98% or about 45.95 lakh voters, 2.98% or about 45.95 lakh have died, voters of 1.5 per cent or around 23.69 lakh such voters who are already voters in some other place as well. Around 0.62 percent or about 9.58 lakh voters who have not yet returned the enumeration form and 5.49 percent or about 84.73 lakh voters are absent.
He said more than 76 per cent of the mapping work of the calculation forms received from the voters from the voter list of 2003 has been completed and all the District Election Officers have been directed to speed up the mapping work and complete it at the earliest.
