The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday issued a notice to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, asking him to hand over his EPIC card (RAB2916120) for investigation, as it was not issued officially.

“…this is to inform you that during the press conference held on 02.08.2025, you stated that your name was not included in the electoral roll. Upon verification, it has been found that your name is listed in the electoral roll of 181-Digha (Bihar and Science University Library Building) at serial number 416, with EPIC number RAB0456228,” the ECI said in its notice.

The ECI notice further stated, “As per your statement during the press conference, your EPIC number is RAB2916120. However, preliminary inquiry suggests that EPIC number RAB2916120 does not appear to be officially generated.”

The Commission asked Yadav to provide details of the EPIC card he mentioned in the presser, along with the original document for a thorough investigation.

“Therefore, you are kindly requested to provide the details of the EPIC card mentioned by you during the press conference on 02.08.2025 (including the original card), to the undersigned, so that a thorough investigation can be conducted,” it added.

The notice comes a day after Tejashwi Yadav attacked the ECI over the SIR exercise in Bihar, stating his EPIC number was changed and his name was missing from the voter list.

The ECI had rejected his claim and said that the RJD leader’s name is very much in the list. The poll panel also shared a draft voter list showing his name listed in the electoral roll of 181-Digha (Bihar and Science University Library Building) at serial number 416, with EPIC number RAB0456228.

However, the EPIC number given by the ECI was different from the one Tejashwi had used during his press conference to show that his name was missing from the voter list.

Earlier today, the BJP pointed out this very fact to accuse him of electoral fraud. BJP MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “The EPIC number that Tejashwi Yadav read from his voter ID – RAB2916120 – does not match the one he had submitted in his 2020 Assembly election affidavit, which was RAB0456228. How does he have two different EPIC numbers?”

He wondered, “If a leader like Tejashwi Yadav holds two voter IDs, what must be the situation among his party workers?”

He also suggested that this was the reason the RJD and its allies were so vehemently opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, saying it was not a small matter but a grave electoral offence.

“Is this the real reason why they are opposing the SIR exercise? Has SIR exposed their game of bogus voters?” he asked.
