EC seeks report from Bihar DGP on Mokama murder case

The Election Commission has asked for a report from Bihar DGP regarding the Mokama Murder case.

Dularchand Yadav, a supporter of Jan Suraj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, was killed during firing between the two sides while campaigning for elections in Mokama on Thursday.

Abhishek Singh, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Barh-2, said the firing broke out following an altercation when the convoys of two parties crossed paths.

“Police received information that the convoys of two parties were crossing each other when one party fired at the other over some issue and also tried to run them over,” Singh said.

The police said the incident will be investigated properly and action will be taken against the perpetrators.

The incident during the peak of electioneering has once again raised law and order concerns in Bihar under the NDA rule, with the Jan Suraj Party terming it an assault on democratic rights.

“The incident took place at the behest of those who seek votes by instilling fear of ‘jungle raj’. This is an assault on our democratic rights. We strongly condemn the attack on the convoy of our Mokama assembly poll candidate, Priyadarshi Piyush, and the killing of one of his supporters,” Jan Suraj Party’s state president Manoj Bharti said in a statement.

“Attacking them during poll campaigns, firing bullets to show dominance, and running a vehicle over a supporter to kill them are heinous crimes,” he added.

Mokama is infamous for being a stronghold of “bahubalis” in Bihar politics, most notably Anant Kumar Singh, his brother Dilip Singh and Surajbhan Singh.

Dularchand Yadav’s family has accused Anant Singh of being behind incident. Police has registered an FIR and an investigation is currently underway.
