EAM Jaishankar met UAE Deputy PM in Abu Dhabi; discussed regional tensions, safety of Indian nationals


External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in Abu Dhabi on the evolving situation in West Asia and its wider implications. The two leaders also discussed Indian community welfare and strengthening the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The meeting comes amid heightened regional tensions, with both sides reviewing recent developments and their potential impact on stability across the Gulf.

India thanks UAE for support

Jaishankar expressed India’s appreciation for the UAE leadership’s efforts in ensuring the safety and well-being of the large Indian community in the country.

In a post on X, he called the interaction “a real pleasure” and said discussions covered regional dynamics and their consequences, while reaffirming confidence in the continued growth of bilateral ties.

Iran tensions and ceasefire developments discussed

According to a statement from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two leaders also discussed the fallout of recent Iranian missile attacks targeting the UAE and other countries, as well as the broader security environment.

They reviewed the situation following the announcement by US President Donald Trump of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, underlining the need for sustained international efforts to maintain peace and stability.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a focus on deepening cooperation across sectors amid evolving geopolitical challenges.

Jaishankar engages with Indian community

Earlier, Jaishankar met members of the Indian diaspora, highlighting the government’s efforts to ensure their safety during the ongoing regional tensions. He also acknowledged their contributions to the UAE’s society and economy.

In a post on X, he said, “Started my visit to the UAE by interacting with the members of the Indian Community. Spoke about GOI’s efforts towards their well – being and security amidst the West Asia conflict. Appreciated their contributions to the local society during these difficult times. As well as the support of the Government of the UAE in ensuring the welfare of the Indian community.”

The Indian Embassy in the UAE also organised a consular camp at the Indian Social Centre in Al Ain, offering essential services to Indian nationals as part of outreach efforts during the current situation.
