The Indian Navy received six strategic indigenously designed and developed products from the Defence Research and Development Organisation, boosting its might further.
The products included Gamma Radiation Aerial Surveillance System(GRASS), Environmental Surveillance Vehicle(ESV), Vehicle Radiological Contamination Monitoring System(VRCMS), Underwater Gamma Radiation Monitoring System(UGRMS) , Dirt Extractor and Cross Contamination Monitor (DECCOM) and Organ Radioactivity Detection System(ORDS).
Developed for aerial monitoring of radiation in nuclear-affected zones, GRASS features a compact gamma radiation sensor that can be mounted on unmanned aerial platforms. It enables swift radiological assessments from the air, enhancing situational awareness during nuclear emergencies.
The Environmental Surveillance Vehicle, created by the Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) of DRDO, is engineered to swiftly detect and assess contamination caused by nuclear, biological, or chemical agents in high-risk areas. It supports on-site analysis and real-time decision-making during hazardous incidents.
VRCMS is a specialized solution for tracking and assessing radioactive contamination on vehicles that have operated in radiation-prone or nuclear-affected environments. It enables effective decontamination procedures and ensures safety compliance in post-incident scenarios.
UGRMS is capable of measuring gamma radiation levels beneath the water surface and relaying real-time data to a remote station. It plays a critical role in maritime safety, coastal surveillance, nuclear site security, and underwater radiological emergency response operations.
This device is tailored for areas with potential chemical, biological, or radioactive exposure. It functions by collecting contaminants from footwear to prevent the inadvertent spread of hazardous materials between secure and contaminated zones.
ORDS is a diagnostic system designed to measure radiation exposure in human organs. It is especially valuable in nuclear disaster response and medical evaluation of individuals exposed to radiological threats, supporting timely diagnosis and treatment.
Secretary DDR&D and Chairman DRDO handed over these products to Rear Admiral Sriram Amur ACNS( SSP), Naval HQ at a special ceremony held at Defence laboratory Jodhpur, DRDO wrote in a post on X.
