Around a dozen worshippers sustained injuries when a portion of Firdaus Masjid balcony here collapsed during Friday prayers here this afternoon.
A fair number of devotees gathered at the mosque in the Bhatta Basti area of the Shastri Nagar for the Jumma namaz in the holy month of Ramadan when the mishap occurred. The debris of the balcony fell on the worshippers.
Police personnel and onlookers swung into action and rescued 15 persons from the debris. The injured were taken to the nearby Kanwantia Government Hospital. Six seriously injured victims of the mishap were referred to the SMS Hospital while eight others were discharged after first-aid at the Kanwatia Hospital.
