Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said that domestic trade in India has been significantly strengthened, even as global markets are opening new avenues for Indian products, pushing the economy towards a higher growth trajectory.

Addressing a delegation of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), led by Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal, at Vanijya Bhawan, the minister said that under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s trade ecosystem is undergoing a historic and rapid transformation.

“India and the United States have just signed a historic interim trade deal framework. This marks a major milestone in India’s global trade engagement, ensuring sustained preferential access for Indian exports in the US market, valued at over USD 30 trillion,” Goyal said.

Highlighting the upcoming Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav, to be organised by CAIT from May 1 to 4 at Bharat Mandapam, the minister said the event would effectively advance the Prime Minister’s call to promote the buying and selling of Indian products across the country and globally.

He noted that the mega trade event would showcase the strength, capability, and potential of India’s trade, industry, and services sectors on an international platform.

“It must be ensured that the Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav plays a meaningful role in further strengthening the Indian economy,” Goyal said.

The minister also emphasised the importance of providing dedicated space and visibility to entrepreneurs from remote regions, enabling their indigenous products to gain access to larger domestic and global markets.

According to CAIT, the Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav will feature around 2,200 stalls showcasing products and services from across India and is expected to attract nearly 10 lakh visitors from all states, including approximately 2 lakh business visitors.
