The Ministry of Health on Tuesday announced that the Department of Health & Family Welfare (DoHFW), under the fourth edition of institutional cleanliness campaign, an initiative of government of India, has cleared 16,352 square feet of space, nearly the size of an average supermarket, by disposing of scrap material worth Rs 29.96 lakh.

In an official document, the ministry noted that between November 2024 and August 2025, DoHFW conducted 1,437 clean up drives to create a healthier workplace environment, better record management, yielding additional benefits of better space management and revenue generation.

Outlining the monumental task, the department highlighted reviewing 29,845 files and weeding out 19,761 files in the last ten months. Additionally, the DoHFW also resolved issues raised by the public and disposed of 35,435 public grievances and associated 2,957 appeals, 255 MP References, 22 Parliamentary Assurances and 16 State Government References.

In line with the government’s initiative to institutionalize swachhata and minimize pendency in government offices, the DoHFW, along with Central government hospitals, subordinate offices, attached offices, autonomous bodies and CPSUs, have been actively participating in the special campaigns since the year 2021.

The ministry noted that they have geared up Special Campaign 5.0 and began a 15 day preparatory phase, starting September 15.

“During the preparatory phase, the department will identify the pendency in selected parameters, mobilize the ground functionaries, finalize cleanliness campaign sites, review records, undertake space management planning and identify scrap material for disposal,” read the press statement.

For this year’s campaign, to be held between October 2 and 31, the department will focus its efforts on removing e-waste.

Similar commitments have been made by the Department of Health Research (DHR) to institutionalize cleanliness practices and minimize pendency in the Department, ICMR Headquarters, and its 27 institutes across the nation.
