The Congress on Monday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “deafening silence” over allegations of ruling BJP bribing their opponents in Gujarat ahead of assembly polls.

Congress leader Manish Tewari said the BJP was displaying a very unique combination of ignorance arrogance and downright frustration.

“The prime minister of India who repeats 500 times a day na khaunga na khaane dunga, does he not know what is happening on his watch in Gujarat? These days he is behaving as CM of Gujarat than PM of India,” Tewari said.

“There are rampant allegations of bribery by people affiliated with movements that the BJP is trying to break and all you hear from Modi and BJP president Amit Shah is deafening silence,” he added.

Tewari was reacting to Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Narendra Patel’s allegations that the BJP tried to buy him.

“The PAAS is not a political organization. It is not affiliated to nay party. It is a movement. Why is the BJP so apprehensive? Why are they trying to break it. Isn’t this a clear sign of their frustration?” asked Tewari.

On Sunday night, Patel dropped a bombshell two hours after he joined the BJP as he presented wads of currency notes, alleging that the BJP tried to buy him.

He said Patidar leader Varun Patel, who joined the BJP on Saturday evening, took him to meet Gujarat BJP President Jitubhai Vaghani and other leaders on Sunday. They gave him Rs 10 lakh as part of Rs 1 crore deal, he alleged.
