DK Shivakumar, who served as deputy to Siddaramaiah during his three-year tenure as Karanataka Chief Minister, was Saturday elected as the new leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP).
During the key CLP meeting in Vidhana Soudha’s conference hall, Siddaramaiah stepped down as the leader of the Legislative Party and moved a resolution for a new leader.
The resolution was supported by former Home Minister G Parameshwara and adopted unanimously.
As per the Karnataka Congress, the first resolution by Siddaramaiah stated that the Congress leadership would decide on the new CLP leader.
Recalling the special service rendered to the people of Karnataka and to the Congress Party, the Congress Legislature Party extended heartfelt thanks to Siddaramaiah.
AICC General Secretaries KC Venugopal and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala were also present during the CLP meeting.
Shivakumar to take oath at 3 pm
The oath-taking ceremony of DK Shivakumar is likely to take place on June 3.
Shivakumar also confirmed the date. When asked if the oath ceremony of the new Chief Minister will take place on June 3, he said, “third, third”.
Earlier today, Aaradhya, Shivakumar’s astrologer, told mediapersons that he had advised the Congress leader that the oath ceremony should take place on June 3 at 5:15 pm.
The development followed after Siddaramaiah had stepped down as Chief Minister on May 28, stating that his resignation was voluntary and based on the suggestion of the party high command.
Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot had accepted Siddaramaiah’s resignation and dissolved the Council of Ministers with immediate effect.
Siddaramaiah was appointed care-taker CM untill a new leader is sworn in.
