Dhillon inspects Jalandhar Cantt station; announces major infrastructure projects ahead of PM’s visit

Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon inspected the ongoing upgradation work at Jalandhar Cantt railway station on Wednesday and finalized logistics ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state.

Speaking to reporters, Dhillon stated that the Prime Minister’s visit on July 17 would usher in a major wave of development for Punjab, featuring projects worth thousands of crores of rupees. The upcoming infrastructure projects include four world-class railway hubs, new train routes, extensive highway networks, and state-of-the-art sports facilities.

Dhillon said, “With every visit to Punjab, Prime Minister Narendra Modi brings substantial development packages to transform the state’s landscape.” This visit will see the formal inauguration of revamped stations in Jalandhar, Mohali, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Sri Anandpur Sahib. Equipped with amenities such as improved waiting lounges, free Wi-Fi, escalators, modern platforms, and dedicated food courts, these transit hubs are designed to provide an excellent travel experience for passengers, particularly the elderly, women, and children.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will flag off the newly introduced Sant Ravidas Express from Jalandhar. Beyond railway expansion, the Centre’s major package includes key road corridors, the upgradation of healthcare facilities at PGI Chandigarh, and a new multi-purpose stadium and studio setup at Panjab University.

Dhillon sharply criticized the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Referring to recent public demonstrations, he highlighted the party’s duplicitous political stance regarding the Ram Mandir issue. He remarked that political groups which previously opposed the temple’s construction in Ayodhya are now engaging in political posturing to woo Hindu voters ahead of the upcoming elections—a strategy the public fully understands.

Dhillon also expressed serious concern regarding the state government’s ongoing verification survey. While the Modi government has allocated ₹4,13,000 crore for public welfare and infrastructure development in Punjab, Dhillon alleged that the state government is rebranding these central schemes under the Chief Minister’s name to claim undeserved credit. Furthermore, he accused the administration of using government employees to collect private family information under the guise of conducting surveys. He termed this a serious violation of individual privacy and an act of data theft—something that would not be tolerated.

Discussing the current state of affairs, BJP leader Dhillon expressed concern over Punjab’s economic condition and law-and-order situation. Citing the rapid proliferation of drug networks and criminal gangs, alongside the state’s mounting debt, Dhillon asserted that Punjab urgently requires the leadership of the BJP and PM Modi to ensure a safe and prosperous future.
