The principal opposition party in Uttarakhand, the Congress, has alleged that the Pushkar Singh Dhami government is frittering away and diverting land allocated for the National Law University (NLU) seven years ago. It also alleged that the NLU could not see the light of day due to apathy on the part of the Dhami government as well as the previous administration led by Trivendra Singh Rawat.

Former BJP minister and chairman of the state Congress Election Management Committee, Harak Singh Rawat, on Saturday alleged that the Dhami government has utterly mismanaged the establishment of the NLU, which was awarded by the Centre to the state.

He alleged that that the Dhami government intentionally kept the construction of the NLU under wraps, despite the fact that the land allotment had been done during the tenure of his predecessor Trivendra Singh Rawat.

“The Dhami government has mismanaged and is frittering away the land allocated for the National Law University in the Ranipokhari area of Rishikesh near Jolly Grant Airport. The BJP government, under former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, had allocated the land in Ranipokhari for the NLU. Its foundation stone was laid by the then CM Trivendra Singh Rawat in the presence of local MP and former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and current Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat,” said Harak Singh Rawat.

Rawat further accused the BJP government in Uttarakhand of undermining the dignity of the Chief Minister’s Office by allegedly subverting and ignoring the foundation stone laid by his predecessor.
He said, “The Dhami government’s move to subvert the work of its predecessor is evidence of deep-seated factionalism within the BJP. This also reflects the attitude among BJP leaders who not only refuse to give credit to others but also seek to disregard or undo previous government actions, even at the cost of the state’s interests.”

The Congress leader warned that such actions by the government would lead to a loss of public trust in future announcements and foundation-laying ceremonies.
