Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday welcomed the High Court order quashing the PSA detention of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik and said his detention was a gross misuse of this law and totally unjustified.
Reacting to the court order, Omar wrote on X; “He should NEVER have been detained under PSA, in fact he should never have been detained at all. His detention was a gross misuse of this law & totally unjustified.”
“I hope the people responsible for this detention learn a valuable lesson from the decision of the High Court & reflect on the way these laws are being abused in J&K”, the Chief Minister added.
Aditya Gupta, president of the youth wing of PDP, said that quashing of PSA against Mehraj Malik exposes a grim truth, laws meant to curb crime are being misused to silence dissent.
He said that the Lt. Governor has some real credibility questions to answer. “The figures clearly show that the majority of PSA cases are failing the judicial test and the provision is clearly being used as an arm twisting tactic”, Gupta said.
