Dengue toll rises in Assam

Guwahati, 1 September: At least five people have died in Assam with suspected dengue symptoms in the past seven days. Guwahati itself witnessed the death of three patients and many more have been admitted in hospitals with symptoms of dengue fever. Two patients from rural Assam have also  reportedly died of dengue within this period.
Over 50 people have been detected with dengue symptom in Assam, where  over 20 patients have tested positive for dengue in Kamrup (metro)  district itself. Rest of the cases have been reported from Barpeta, Chirang, Goalpara, Nagaon, Morigaon, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur and  Dibrugarh district.
They are all under treatment in Gauhati Medical  College Hospital.
Soon after the death of three patients Loni Dewan, Kandarpa Deka and Roopjyoti Dewan in Guwahati, two more patients from Rohmoria (Biswajit Das) and Pathshala (GP Das) died because of the fever in the hospital.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, while expressing concern at the dengue deaths, asked the responsible  departments and agencies to work  together to deal with the situation.
State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said the situation was under control.      sns
